🧪 Methodology — How Independence Score™ Works
Each region is evaluated across six green-tech pillars: Clean Energy, AI & Smart Sustainability, Green Transport, Carbon Capture, Water Tech, and Circular Economy. For every pillar, we estimate a Technology Readiness Level (TRL) from 1 (basic research) to 9 (commercial deployment).
We then combine three weighted indices to compute the Independence Score™:
- 55% — average pillar TRL (normalized to 0–100)
- 25% — Investment Index (climate-tech VC + public capex 2025–2026)
- 20% — Policy Index (regulatory ambition, carbon pricing, NDC strength)
Scores are editorial estimates blending IEA, IRENA, BloombergNEF, MIT TRL frameworks, and Future Green Tech newsroom analysis. Updated quarterly.
